Authorities arrest 16 in drug sweep

Sixteen suspected drug dealers, most from the Greater Johnstown area, were arrested this week by the Cambria County Drug Task Force, culminating a yearlong drug probe.

The suspects were described by District Attorney Patrick Kiniry as low- to mid-level drug dealers who trafficked in the illegal distribution of prescription drugs, crack cocaine and heroin.

In addition to the arrests, task force officers seized more than $6,000 in cash, two guns and a cache of ammunition from two unidentified locations in Greater Johnstown.

The ammunition included clips for an AK-47 assault rifle and for a 9 mm handgun, the district attorney said.

Additional arrests are pending, he said.

Johnstown police, the FBI, Richland Township police and the sheriff’s department assisted in the probe and the arrests, Kiniry said.
