NEW – Pittsburgh bridge closed for inspection

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists the outbound (southbound) lanes of the Birmingham Bridge in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, are currently closed for bridge inspection activities.

The bridge carries Route 2085 over the Monongahela River.

The on-ramps from Fifth Avenue and Forbes Avenue are also closed. A possible structural concern has been identified and the department feels it is in the best interest of the traveling public to close the outbound lanes at this time and conduct a thorough inspection to ensure the integrity of the structure.

Motorists should use alternate like the Hot Metal bridge or other routes to enter the South Side.
