The departure of two more women’s medicine specialists continues the local shakeup that began with the closing of a local obstetrics program earlier this year.
Longtime obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Pradeep Kulkarni has left Windber Medical Center’s staff. The region’s newest OB-GYN specialist, Dr. Bora Oezgueler, is no longer with Conemaugh Health System. Neither hospital would provide information about what led to the doctors’ separations from the organizations.
Kulkarni’s departure leaves Dr. Amy Anderson as the only gynecologist at Windber. A couple of years ago, there were five OB-GYNs on staff.
The death of Dr. Roger Morrell in April 2012 was followed by news that Drs. William Walker and Canan Shain-Kandemir were leaving the area. The void led Windber to drop its maternity program in March, with a promise it would expand gynecology health services through Anderson and Kulkarni.
Conemaugh added Oezgueler and said it was expanding its program to take in Windber’s obstetrics patients.
Both hospitals said Thursday they are looking for replacements and will continue to offer a range of women’s health services.
“Windber Medical Center remains committed to expanding women's care services,” spokeswoman Amy Jeffords said.
“We also have a great staff of certified nurse midwives and certified registered nurse practitioners who are able to provide routine gynecological care as well as pregnancy and childbirth,” Conemaugh spokeswoman Amy Bradley said.
