BREAKING – Former Johnstown mayor dead at 83

JOHNSTOWN — Herb Pfuhl, who served as Johnstown’s mayor for two decades, died Thursday at age 83.

Pfuhl’s five terms in office included leadership of the city during the 1977 flood.

The Republican first was elected mayor of the heavily Democratic city in 1971. He lost in 1977 but was out of office for only one term, winning re-election in 1981 and serving until he retired at the end of 1993.

Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane in Richland Township, is in charge of arrangements.
