ARCP, Pitt-Johnstown student athletes unite for community projects

JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown-based Alternative Community Resource Program, ACRP, and student athletes from Pitt-Johnstown have joined in a multifaceted project to improve the community.

The project will provide mentors and role models for at-risk children and adolescents, beautify and improve neighborhoods and parks, provide assistance for agencies that serve the underprivileged and install smoke detectors for families with children.

The student athletes so far have helped at Bourdess Memorial Fishing Park in Sidman, ACRP’s garden in Kernville, Tanneryville Baseball Field and at The Salvation Army.

The students also have helped to install smoke detectors in hundreds of homes in Johnstown and nearby communities.

In addition, the students have become involved in several ACRP programs, community service projects and school programs.

They are mentors for at-risk children, working to develop character and create a positive change in the behavior of youngsters.
