Family seeks tips on missing woman

SYKESVILLE — It was seven years ago on Saturday that Joey Lynn Offutt of Sykesville, Jefferson County, went missing and her 6-week-old son died in a fire at their home on July 12.

Offutt’s family is hoping to bring attention on the anniversary of the case, offering a $25,000 reward for information on her whereabouts.

Offutt’s car, a red Saturn with a Virginia registration, was found four days later at Nittany Gardens in State College, where she had once lived, the family said in a news release.

Offutt’s other two children were not in the home at the time of the fire.

The family believes Offutt would not have left her children willingly.

They fear someone killed her and then tried to destroy evidence by burning down the house.

Offutt’s family has established a toll-free number to field tips from the public.

Anyone with information can call 1-877-440-5639 or call the state police at 371-4652.

There also is a website to help bring attention to the case: www.findjoey.org.

Offutt was 33 years old at the time and was described as being 5 feet 3 inches tall with a thin build. She has brown eyes and brownish-red hair.
