Man waives theft hearing

WINDBER — A Windber man accused of stealing more than $60,000 from a Central City nonprofit organization will answer theft charges in Somerset County court.

Justin Michael Wirick, 26, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday before Senior Judge Joseph Cannoni of Windber.

State police based in Somerset allege he stole money from Angels of East Africa from December 2010 to December 2012.

A person from the organization contacted authorities and expressed concern about the missing money and was advised to have an audit conducted, Somerset County District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser said.

The audit was carried out by Schneider Downs & Co. Inc. of Pittsburgh, which found that $60,997 had been misappropriated.

Wirick, of the 3800 block of Graham Avenue, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

He is free on bond.
