Local man wins American Eagle spot
WINDBER – Kyle Neff of Windber garnered enough votes to win the Sharp and Chic category of American Eagle’s Live Your Life Campaign.
The 19-year-old sophomore is a finance and marketing dual major at Robert Morris University in suburban Pittsburgh and has always been interested in fashion.
Neff received more votes in his category than the seven other males from across the nation.
EcoKids receives $10,000 grant
The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies recently was awarded a combined $10,000 grant from the Community Initiatives Fund and the Robert Waters Charitable Trust.
The money will go to The Learning Lamp’s EcoKids to help offset startup costs. The children’s consignment shop, located at 2025 Bedford St. in Johnstown, opened in July.
Proceeds support The Learning Lamp’s After School Outreach Program, which serves underprivileged children in kindergarten through eighth grade at three locations in the Moxham, Prospect and Oakhurst sections of Johnstown. The program serves about 100 children during after-school hours and over the summer.
Barrier Awareness Day slated for Wednesday
The Hiram G. Andrews Center at 727 Goucher St. in Upper Yoder Township will conduct its annual Barrier Awareness Day, which promotes accessibility in public areas, at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Students from local high schools and attendant care agency staff will use adaptative equipment such as wheelchairs, braces and vision-impairment glasses to navigate obstacles to view the world through the eyes of a person with a disability.
CamTran will provide a bus for demonstration of loading and unloading adaptive equipment.
Conemaugh veterans elect leaders
Ed Wojnaroski Sr. was elected chairman of the Conemaugh Valley Veterans.
Other officers chosen at the biennial election are Jon Brown, vice chairman/secretary; Dave Wainwright, assistant vice chairman/secretary; and Marty Kuhar, treasurer.
The organization continues to coordinate various military and veterans events and activities throughout the area, including the annual Veteran’s Day parade in downtown Johnstown.
