JOHNSTOWN — Sean R. Roane, managing editor for design/production at The Tribune-Demo-crat, died Friday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center after a three-year battle with cancer.

Roane, 47, a native of Keyport, N.J., started working at the paper in July 1998 as sports editor and held other management positions in the newsroom.

“Sean was so dedicated to working at The Tribune-Democrat,” said his wife, Bonnie (Howard) Roane of Upper Yoder Township. “He loved what he did and the people he worked with and took a lot of pride in what he did.”

She called her husband an inspiration and said many people commented on how much they admired his strength throughout his ordeal.

“He didn’t just fight the battle, he owned it and stepped up to the plate,” Bonnie Roane said.

Sean Roane had a great love for music and sports and strived to live his life to the fullest.

“He tried to have as many good times as he could, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his son,” his wife said. “He was a wonderful husband who was well-loved and well-respected.”

Editor Eric Knopsnyder said The Tribune-Democrat lost an invaluable member of its family.

“He has been a huge part of our family and he inspired us and amazed us with his work ethic,” Knopsnyder said. “Despite battling cancer, he was here every day, working through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. We will miss him as a colleague, but more importantly we will miss him as a friend.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Matthew; parents, Robert and Dorothy Roane of Melbourne, Fla.; sister, Susan, wife of Jamie McMannes of Virginia Beach, Va., and their son, Joshua; and brother-in-law, Patrick Howard of Queensbury, N.Y., and his two sons, Nikolas and Casey.

The Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., West Hills, is in charge of arrangements.
