The Fayette County Coroner’s office is working to identify a body found over the weekend at Ohiopyle State Park.
The body apparently was found late Saturday night in the northwest portion of the state park near Bruner Run, according to Fayette County 911 officials.
The body was found in a corridor where an extensive search was under way in January
for a Somerset man, Jeremy Walker, 29, who went missing on New Year’s Day. But as of Sunday no further details, including a positive identity, had been released.
State police in Fayette said Ohiopyle State Park officials were handling the incident.
The Uniontown Herald-Standard reported Sunday that the body was found entangled in trees near the Youghiogheny River. It was badly decomposed and had to be lifted 200 feet up a cliff to a bike trail area.
Passenger killed in Huntingdon crash
MOUNT PLEASANT – Police said a car traveling nearly 100 mph in a 35 mph zone went airborne and crashed into a pole, killing one man and seriously injuring two others.
Investigators said the car was on a street near Route 31 early Saturday night when it flew over a hill and hit a pole in Mount Pleasant, Huntingdon County. The car then hit two additional poles and knocked down power lines.
The driver and both passengers were ejected from the car. Thirty-two-year-old passenger Corey Maximchalk died. Scott Leighliter and Patrick Marshala were flown to a hospital and were in serious condition.
