Zeta Lambda, IUP’s nursing honor society, will sponsor “Crisis Care: Prevention, Intervention and Management of the Client, Population, Community or Environment” at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Ohio Room of the IUP Hadley Union Building.
Lori Jo Bell, national Zeta Lambda secretary, and Danny Sacco will be the featured speakers.
Bell will present “Ground Zero and Shanksville: A Red Cross Nurse’s Care Experiences Post Terrorist Attack.”
Since earning her master’s degree in nursing administration at IUP in 2003, Bell has participated in numerous Red Cross disaster assignments as a member of the local Disaster Action Team in Pittsburgh and Washington, Pa.
National assignments include the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville and the 9/11 ground zero site in Manhattan.
Sacco’s presentation is titled “Institutional Disaster Preparedness: Planning and Care.”
Sacco is the director of safety and security at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He directs all safety, security and disaster operations. He has served as a volunteer firefighter and past president of the Chief’s Association of Indiana County. He is an associate faculty member at IUP’s Division of Emergency Services Training Center.
His most recognizable volunteer efforts are those as a safety officer with the Pennsylvania USAR Task Force-1 with deployment to the World Trade Center attacks of 9/11 in New York City, the successful rescue of nine miners in Somerset County and Hurricane Katrina.
The presentation is free. Light refreshments will be provided.
