Gunman robs store in Portage

PORTAGE — A masked man robbed a Sheetz convenience store at gunpoint early Wednesday and then fled with cash, investigators said.

State police in Ebensburg said the man entered the Portage store about 12:45 a.m. He wore a mask and gloves and brandished a handgun, pointing it at store employees inside.

“(He) demanded cash from the registers,” Trooper Kenneth Durbin wrote in a news release, saying the suspect then fled on foot from the Route 53 store.

Police described the robber as a white male but did not offer additional details.

Monica Jones, a spokeswoman for Sheetz, said the company was notified about the robbery and “thankfully, there were no injuries to employees at the scene.”

Anyone with information on the robbery can call Ebensburg state police at 471-6500.
