Art Works planning fundraiser

JOHNSTOWN — Everyone goes home a winner.

As part of an ongoing effort to support and encourage arts and artists in Johnstown and following the success of last year’s event, Art Works in Johnstown, located at 413 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown, will hold its fundraising event “Fortune Smiles on You, Tombola 2013” at 6 p.m. Oct 5.

Throughout the evening art work will be awarded by drawing tickets from a tombolo, which is Italian for tumbler.

“Everyone who buys a ticket will have their name put into the tumbler and when their name is called they can pick a piece of art of their choosing off the wall,” said Theresa Gay Rohall, Art Works’ executive director.

Each piece is valued at or above $100 and donated by regional artists.

“We have $6,000 worth of donated art this year,” Rohall said.

The art currently is on display at Art Works and people are welcome to stop and preview the works to get a better idea of what is available to win.

The cost is $80 per person or $150 per couple and tickets are required in advance.

Admission includes an Italian-style buffet dinner and musical entertainment provided by the Ferguson and Friends Jazz Combo from Indiana, Pa.

Proceeds benefit Arts Works and its programs and exhibits.

Rohall said last year’s inaugural event was well attended and she’s hopeful people will once again come out and support the event.

“We want to continue to generate interest in the arts in our region and this fundraiser is putting art into the hands and homes of people in our community,” she said.
