Friends step up for fire victims

JOHNSTOWN — Ivori Achen and her 4-year-old son, Ayden, found out how many people care about them soon after their Linden Avenue residence caught fire Wednesday night.

Tons of help from friends and strangers started to pour in shortly after the fire.

A friend, Brittany Lambrinos of Johnstown, started an online fund to raise money for Achen and her son to help them get back on their feet.

“She’s just an altogether good person who loves her son,” Lambrinos said. “I think our hearts are really breaking for her because she already was going through so much.”

Achen said she and her son are staying with her parents in Dilltown.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” she said about the amount of people who have come forward to help. “I’m at a loss for words.”

She said their pet cat, Elephant, is alive thanks to firefighters who made a special effort to rescue him from the burning house.
