Symphony announces 2013-14 concert dates

JOHNSTOWN — Johnstown Symphony Orchestra has announced its 85th concert season for 2013-2014, “Great Music for a Great City.”

The symphony will mark the 125th anniversary of the city of Johnstown with a yearlong celebration highlighting how much it has become an integral part of the city.

“It is with great anticipation that I look forward to the next season of Johnstown Symphony Orchestra,” said Maestro Istvan Jaray, music director. “It contains the diversity, thrill and appeal of new works that will satisfy any audience. There will be some new pieces and some very pleasant familiar family works. Each concert will be a touching and memorable show that will tap into the human emotion of our community.”

All concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on the campus of Pitt-Johnstown in Richland Township, except for the Halloween Spooktacular Concert, which will be held at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Richland High School auditorium.

Concerts for the “Great Music for a Great City” season will include:

Oct. 19: “A Heroic Opening.”

Oct. 26: “Halloween Spooktacular.”

Nov. 16: “A Night with Amadeus.”

Dec. 14: “Joyful Holiday Celebration.”

March 8: “Behind the Mask.”

April 5: “Our Young Talents and Shining Brass.”

May 3: “Happy 125th Anniversary Johnstown.”

Season ticket prices will be $199 for premium seats, $159 for regular seats, $125 for senior citizens and $60 for students.

All season ticket holders will receive assigned seats of their choice, subject to availability.

Flex-Six passes will be available for $169, providing six vouchers at a discount of 15 percent for six tickets to the concert or concerts of choice, with a limit of two for the holiday performance.

Single tickets for the season will be $37 for premium seating and $32 for regular seating.

There will be a $5 discount on any single ticket for senior citizens, and student tickets will be $10.

Tickets for the holiday concert will be $42 for premium seating and $37 for regular seating.

Groups of 10 or more may purchase seats at the group rate of 20 percent off their total purchase.
