Philadelphia man faces drug, weapon charges

JOHNSTOWN — A Philadelphia man was jailed Thursday after Johnstown police said they found him with a loaded gun, drugs and drug money inside a public housing project on Cooper Avenue.

City police charged Anthony L. Woods, 26, with manufacture of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they responded to a report of a man with a gun inside an apartment in Build-ing 19 of Coopersdale Homes.

Officers said they knocked on the door, and when Woods answered they could smell marijuana.

Woods told the officers he had been smoking a “blunt” (a cigar filled with marijuana), but he denied having any guns, police said in a criminal complaint.

Officers said they spotted drug paraphernalia in plain sight and obtained a warrant to search the apartment.

During the search, police said they seized 1 1⁄2 pounds of suspected pot, plastic bags, two digital scales, a stolen .380-caliber

SIG Sauer handgun that was loaded, a box of bullets and $900 in cash.

Woods was arraigned by on-call District Judge Michael Musulin of Johnstown and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $100,000 bond.
