Firefighters from Patton and neighboring companies battled a fire at a home in the 200 block of Leiden Avenue in Chest Township on Saturday afternoon.
Patton Fire Company officials said no one was hurt in the blaze, which was reported about 5 p.m., although the home sustained “extensive damage.”
Crews from Coalport, Irvona, Hastings and Westover fire departments assisted Patton at the scene. All of the fire companies cleared the scene by around 8 p.m.
Officials said the cause of the blaze is still undetermined.
Mount Aloysius holding open house
DUBOIS – The Mount Aloysius College Office of Graduate and Continuing Education will host an open house for anyone interested in becoming a radiologic technologist or medical laboratory technician at
6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The open house will be held in the Central Resource Center Building Assembly Room, next to the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Roxane Hogue, director of graduate and continuing education admissions at Mount Aloysius, said participants will be able to speak with faculty and learn about financial aid.
Ninety-four percent of Mount Aloysius students received some form of financial aid.
The partnership between Mount Aloysius College and DuBois Regional Medical Center allows students to earn associate degrees in medical imaging/radiography or medical laboratory technician.

Tourist bureau seeking photo entries
INDIANA – The Indiana County Tourist Bureau is conducting a photo contest in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
Residents and visitors may submit photos that promote tourism in the county through Sept. 30.
Subject matter may include people, attractions, events, outdoor activities, architecture and scenic landscapes.
Submit unique, dynamic and quirky photos that reflect the beauty of Indiana County.
All photos must be in good taste, taken during 2012-13 and be within the county lines.
Photos must be original to the person submitting them and not previously published or infringe on any copyrights or trademarks. Entrants also must have signed waivers from people within the photos.
Six winners will receive cash prizes with a top award of $250.
People receiving an honorable mention will receive an Indiana County T-shirt.
