The Westmont Hilltop school board took another step toward remodeling the district’s middle school by selecting a bond counsel, Clark Hill Thorp Reed. The firm has an office in Pittsburgh.
Last week the board hired PFM Management, which has an office in Harrisburg, as its financial advisor.
Both firms will bill the district for services as needed.
The district is about to pay off the bonds that it issued to renovate the high school. The district will float bonds to finance the middle school project.
The board has decided to allow the incoming board to make the decisions on remodeling the school.
In other business Monday, the board awarded a $19,750 contract to TMR Roofing of Saltsburg to make repairs to the roof above the cafeteria at the elementary school.
The board awarded a $7,000 contract to Petrunak Paving of Windber to make repairs to the middle school parking lot.
The high school girls soccer team was recognized for good sportsmanship by the soccer referees from the PIAA. One of the players, Schyleigh Hughes, received an honorable mention from the referees.
The board approved a four-year contract with support staff, who are members of the Teamsters union. The contract is retroactive to July 1 and calls for a wage freeze the first year, a 2.5 percent raise the next year and raises of 2 percent in each of the last two years.
The contract also calls for the same health care plan that was approved recently for teachers.
The high-deductible plan will save the district money.
The support staff approved the contract earlier.
The next board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11.
