Assault suspect waives hearing

PATTON – A Reade Township man was charged with aggravated assault Saturday after police he said pointed a gun in the direction of a man in a Sheetz parking lot in Patton Borough.

In a criminal complaint, Patton police allege James Paul Hoopsick, 52, of Flinton, pointed a combination shotgun/rifle in the direction of a man and threatened to shoot.

Police recovered the weapon and a box of shells from Hoopsick’s Ford Ranger. No shots were fired.

Hoopsick was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and terroristic threats.

He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland township and sent  to the Cambria County prison after failing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bond.
