McClelland picks up endorsements in 12th district race

JOHNSTOWN — Erin McClelland, a candidate in next year’s 12th Congressional District race from Allegheny County, received endorsements from three local political figures on Monday.

Westmoreland County Commissioner Ted Kopas, Westmoreland County Democratic Committee Chairman Dante Bertani and Westmoreland County Democratic Committee Executive Director Jessie Walker all offered their support to McClelland.

They are the first individuals to formally back her candidacy.

“The support of these leaders means so much to my campaign,” said McClelland, the executive director of a licensed orthomolecular addiction treatment program. “Their wealth of experience as public servants will be a valuable asset in our efforts to bring pragmatic, data-driven representation to Pennsylvania’s 12th district.”

McClelland is one of two declared candidates in the Democratic race, along with Jenner Township resident John Hugya.

The seat is currently held by freshman U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Sewickley.

He is facing a primary challenge from Johnstown’s Larry Stiles.
