In brief: Pupil accused of bringing knife to school

PENN RUN — State police in Indiana said a 12-year-old pupil could face charges for bringing a pocket knife to Penns Manor High School.

Police said the seventh-grader brought the folding knife into the Cherryhill Township school Friday.

Hotels collecting for Project Bundle Up

Crown American Hotels will help the local community stay warm this winter by collecting cold-weather items for Johnstown Salvation Army’s Project Bundle Up.

New or gently used coats, jackets, hats and mittens can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Downtown Johnstown, 250 Market St., or the Holiday Inn Express, 1440 Scalp Ave., Richland Township.

Donors will receive a discount coupon for Harrigan’s Cafe & Wine Deck at the downtown location.

Items also will be accepted at the front desk of both hotels throughout the month of October.

Squirrel Hill Tunnel lanes to close for repairs  

PITTSBURGH – Inbound lanes of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will be closed  weekends starting Friday through Oct. 15 and Oct. 19-22.

The westbound closures will be from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday both weekends. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. Significant delays should be expected. The outbound tunnel will remain open, although short-term traffic stoppages may occur for equipment access and material removal.
