Heart attacks claim two hunters in Somerset County

JOHNSTOWN — Two hunters died from apparent heart attacks during the first hours of deer season.

Robert George, 66, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., was stricken while hunting this morning in Shade Township, Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller said.

George was taken to Windber Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m., Miller said.

The other hunter apparently died while setting up a tree stand around daybreak in Gallitzin State Forest, Miller said.

“We think he (died) around 6:30 in the morning,” Miller said. “He wasn't found until later.”

Miller pronounced the man dead at 12:10 p.m. at the scene.

The man's name has not been released because his family has not been contacted, Miller said.
