Snow-day program available for kids

JOHNSTOWN — The Learning Lamp is enrolling children in its Kids’ Day Out program.

Kids’ Day Out provides children from kindergarten to sixth grade with supervised, fun activities on days when they don’t have school. The program operates on all snow days as well as prescheduled holidays, including New Year’s Eve.

Each kids’ day features a distinct theme such as Candy Land, Snowman Factory, Weird Science, Winter Wonderland and Antarctic Adventure.

“The day revolves around letting the kids have fun,” said Lauren Spangler, director of school-age programs at The Learning Lamp.

“We don’t want to take the excitement of a snow day away from them, so we deliver a stimulating lineup of activities to keep kids busy while at the same time enabling parents to go to work as usual and feel comfortable knowing their children are in good hands.”

Kids’ Day Out is available at four locations: Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center in Richland Township, The Little Learning Lamp in Westmont, The Learning Lamp Center for Children in Jennerstown and Cambria Elementary School in Ebensburg.

Children do not have to attend the schools or programs to take part in Kids’ Day Out.

Hours at the Richland, Westmont and Ebensburg sites are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In Jennerstown the program runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A minimum of five children must enroll for the program to take place.
