Blair County gunman's girlfriend facing trial

HOLLIDAYSBURG — A woman has been ordered to stand trial on charges she illegally purchased the gun that her boyfriend used when he fatally shot three people in Blair County before state troopers killed him.

The Altoona Mirror reports 52-year-old Brenda Shultz of Hollidaysburg waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

Her attorney, Lucas Kelleher, says there’s no connection between buying the .45 caliber pistol in January 2011 and its use by Jeffrey Lee Michael in the shootings near Geeseytown on Dec. 21. Kelleher says Shultz was living with Michael and they were buying the gun jointly, so she didn’t lie by filling out paperwork saying the gun was for her.

Police charged Shultz because she allegedly believed Michael was under a protection from abuse order from his ex-wife that prevented him from owning guns. The order had expired, however.
