Pair gets nod for honor
Pitt-Johnstown senior infielder Dan DelSignore, a Bishop McCort graduate, was named to the second team in the Rawlings Coaches All-Region teams, while freshman right hander Jon Moore garnered Daktronics second-team honors in the sports information directors all-region teams.
DelSignore, a second team ESPN the Magazine second-team academic All-District selection, entered Thursday’s North Atlantic Region baseball tournament as UPJ’s third-leading hitter at .354. DelSignore leads the team in hits (67), runs scored (50) and hit-by-pitch (14). DelSignore also has 18 doubles, a pair of triples, five homeruns and 32 RBIs.
Moore posted a team-best 6-1 reord in eight starts as a true freshman. Moore struck out 35 in 46 2/3 innings and had a 3.66 ERA.
Curve fall victim to rain
The scheduled opener of a seven-game Altoona Curve road trip Friday evening at Harrisburg has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a 6:05 p.m. doubleheader tonight at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg.
Friday’s postponement marks the fourth time in five days that the Curve will not be in action.

Rams tripped up in districts
ALEXANDRIA – Eleventh-seeded Laurel Valley gave No. 6 Juniata Valley a challenge before falling in Thursday’s District 6 Class A playoff contest.
Rams pitcher Deena Eckels reached base twice, scoring Laurel Valley’s first run on a RBI-single by Megan Bennett. The Rams’ other two runs came as a result of a series of three throwing errors in the top of the fifth.
