Roxberry Creamery 0
Brett Vescovi threw a no-hitter, one walk away from a perfect game, as Delweld defeated Roxberry Creamery in the early game Friday at Point Stadium.
J.R. Tenney was 2-for-3 and scored two of Delweld’s runs. Spencer White and Nick Hogue both had two hits while Nick Barbera scored the other Delweld run.
Late Thursday
Principle Development 3 Bulldogs 0
Principle Development’s Gregg Bandzuh went the distance, striking out six and allowing six hits in a shutout win over the Highland Bulldogs in Thursday’s late game at Point Stadium.
Matt Stahl had an RBI and scored a run for Principle.
Cambria Legion
Somerset 15, Cernic’s 15
Somerset and Cernic’s played to a tie after eight innings in Game 3 of their best-of-3 American Legion semifinal playoff game Friday at Franklin Field.
The game was suspended by darkness and will be completed today at noon.
The Somerset/Cernic’s winner will head to Claysburg at 3 p.m. Sunday for the beginning of the best-of-3 championship series.
Top-seeded Claysburg swept past Westmont 2-0 in the other semifinal series, which was completed Thursday.
Hockey
Chiefs hosting raffle at Jubilee
The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets and the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced Friday that the team will be hosting a raffle at the 2009 Ferndale Fireman’s Jubilee to benefit the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Company.
Chiefs’ representatives will be manning their booth at the Jubilee from Monday through July 18 raffling off chances to win prizes. Jubilee-goers can take part in the raffle by purchasing single tickets for $1.
Those who purchase tickets will be entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes.
Winning tickets will be drawn at midnight on July 18, and winners need not be present to claim the prize. Also, Chiefs veteran enforcer Jason Spence is scheduled to sign autographs at the Chiefs table on Monday beginning at 9 p.m., and the Chiefs’ mascot, Tom E. Hawk, will be appearing throughout the week.
Prizes include game-worn Chiefs jersey, an 18-ticket total choice flex plan and the grand prize, a free season ticket for the 2009-10 season.

Golf
Fred Joseph earns PSAC Coach of the Year Award
IUP head golf coach Fred Joseph continued his string of PSAC Coach of the Year honors when he was selected for the award for the 2008-09 season by his conference peers.
Joseph received the award for the ninth time in his 17 seasons as head coach at IUP, including five of the past six years.
Joseph led the Crimson Hawks to their second straight NCAA Division II super regional title and a 12th place finish at the NCAA championship tournament, tying the 1993 team for IUP’s best ever showing at nationals. IUP was in the NCAA tournament for the 13th consecutive season.
