Delweld pick-up player Nate Campbell and Richland running back Tanner Solarczyk earned Point Stadium Award monthly nominations for August and September, respectively.
A center fielder, Campbell laced a one-out double to deep right field, driving in a pair of runs that provided the margin of victory in the Johnstown representative’s 12-10 victory over Chicago Metro in the AAABA Tournament.
Campbell went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the match up of undefeated tournament teams on Aug. 9.
“It was the ninth, it was do or die and it felt good to scratch out a couple of runs,” said Campbell after the game. “It’s definitely an advantage to be a part of this lineup, it makes it easier to hit around. I was a pick-up, so I’m humbled to be a part of this team and happy to contribute.”
Campbell played for the Berkley Hills Renegades but Delweld picked up the speedy outfielder for the tournament. Campbell appeared in three AAABA Tournaments, twice as a pick-up player and in 2012 with the Renegades.
The Tribune-Democrat Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, Solarczyk showed no signs of slowing down during his senior season.
He rushed for 111 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries as the undefeated Rams routed Bishop McCort 70-21 on Friday.
Solarczyk scored on runs of 11, 3, 5 and 12 yards and averaged 7.9 yards per carry against the Crushers.
Overall, Solarczyk has gained 611 yards and has 10 touchdowns on 66 carries, an average of 9.3 per attempt.
“It’s certainly an honor for another Richland kid to be nominated for the award,” said Rams coach Brandon Bailey. “Tanner has been a big reason for our success the past couple years and he had another big game on Friday night.”
Four athletes were honored with Point Stadium Play of the Month nominations.
Berkley Hills Renegades right fielder Brett Marabito and his AAABA League teammate Matt Kastelic shared July Play of the Month honors.
Marabito made a diving catch in the second inning, got up throwing and got out a runner at the plate against Delweld on July 13.
Left fielder Kastelic ran down a fly ball, making a sliding catch near the left-field line in the seventh inning against Martella’s Pharmacy, which had the bases loaded with two outs.
Kastelic’s catch prevented the Renegades from falling further behind in a game they eventually lost 11-9 on July 21.
Delweld left fielder Devin Pritts took August Play of the Month by catching a long fly ball hit by a Buffalo batter in the second inning of an Aug. 6 AAABA Tournament game. Pritts chased the well-hit drive, jumped and made the catch just as he hit the wall near the scoreboard, pleasing a tournament crowd of 3,000.
Buffalo had two on base and led 1-0 at the time. Delweld won the game 6-5.
Bishop McCort senior receiver Nemo Trexler made an acrobatic, one-handed touchdown reception to pull the Crushers within 22-14 of Richland on Sept. 27.
With a defender on him, Trexler got a piece of the ball and secured it with one hand, landing in the end zone.
