Mount splits with Bradford
CRESSON – Mount Aloysius split a twin bill with Pitt-Bradford, 2-1 and 7-4.
Derrick Capiak struck out 10 and pitched a complete game to lead Mount Aloysius to a victory in the opening game. Ian Helsel drove in two runs and had a hit for the Mounties. Lucas Szymanski, Aaron Kovach, Corey Dick and Alex Martin also had hits.
Kovach ended the game when he threw out Pitt Bradford’s potential tying run at the plate trying to advance on a sacrifice fly.
In the second, game Pitt-Bradford erupted for four runs in the final inning to take a 7-2 lead. Mount Aloysius put together a comeback attempt in its final at bat, scoring a pair of runs and loading the bases, but ultimately fell short.
Martin had three hits and two RBI in the second game. Conner Bowie had two hits. Chris Nolan took the loss.
Mount Aloysius is 19-10.
Curve post win over Senators
HARRISBURG – Altoona’s Casey Sadler (3-0) again tied his career high by dealing seven innings of one-run ball to lead the Curve to a victory over the Harrisburg Senators, 4-1, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park.
The Stillwater, Okla. native struck out four and walked one while allowing only one run on four hits.
It’s the second straight start that Sadler has finished seven innings, and the sixth time overall in his career.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before first baseman Matt Curry blasted his second home run in as many days, a solo shot to left-center field in the fourth.
