New golf pro at Sunnehanna Country Club

JOHNSTOWN — Carl Seelman’s career in golf has taken him to some of the sports premier destinations.

He grew up in Hawaii, where he first played the sport as an 11-year-old at Oahu Country Club. He played at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego as part of the Optimist Junior World Championship. He served as a first assistant at Pinehurst (N.C.) National, which has hosted the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup. He worked as head golf professional at Las Vegas Country Club and, most recently, as an associate golf professional at Farmington (Va.) Country Club, considered one of the top facilities in the mid-Atlantic Region.

Seelman can add historic Sunnehanna Country Club to the list as he was hired as head golf professional.

“We are very excited and thrilled to have selected Carl Seelman from more than 60 qualified candidates that applied for the golf professional position at SCC,” said General Manager/Chief Operating Officer Don Zolnosky. “Having Carl Seelman selected with his tremendous background, experience and well-respected reputation in the golf industry is yet another indication of the reputation Sunnehanna Country Club holds across the nation.”

Seelman replaces Joe Shorto, who retired after 30 years as the head golf pro at Sunnehanna.

Sunnehanna Country Club is planning a meet-and-greet in the main ballroom on Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.
