Buchan to speak at Point Awards banquet

JOHNSTOWN — The Point Stadium Award banquet will be held tonight at Ace’s Lounge in Cambria City. The event begins at 6:30.

Johnstown businessman Jack Buchan, who won the 1973 Point Stadium Award for football, will be the featured speaker at the banquet.

Buchan was a standout in football and basketball at Johnstown High.

The annual Point Stadium Award winner also will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Monthly nominees for the 2013 Point Stadium Award included: 

Bishop McCort football player Luke DiFrancesco (October);

Richland football player Tanner Solarczyk (September);

Delweld outfielder Nate Campbell (August);

Delweld pitcher Marcus Shippey (June);

California (Pa.) first baseman Kyle Petty (May);

Mount Aloysius pitcher Derrick Capiak (April);

Pitt-Johnstown second baseman Jake Warner (February and March).

Monthly nominees for the 2013 Point Stadium Play of the Year Award are:

Cambria Heights freshman football player James Baum (October);

Bishop McCort senior receiver Nemo Trexler (September);

Delweld left fielder Devin Pritts (August);

Berkley Hills right fielder Brett Marabito (co-July)

Berkley Hills Renegades left field Matt Kastelic (co-July);

Pitt-Johnstown catcher (Kyle Morrow (April).
