Area grapplers excel nationally

JOHNSTOWN — Three area wrestlers placed first at the 25th annual National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) national wrestling championships middle school division last weekend in Virginia Beach, Va.

Three Greater Johnstown students placed first in their respective weight classes.

Carnell Andews placed first at 119 pounds with a pin, a 14-0 victory, a 16-0 decision and a 4-1 semifinal victory prior to blanking Marshall Keller of Virginia 6-0 in the final.

Anthony Walters placed first at 165 pounds. He had a pin and a 3-2 win before recording a 4-0 decision over Andrew Shedleski of Pennyslvania in the final.

Josiah Jones placed first at 230 pounds with two pins and a 4-0 decision in the final against Caleb Allison of Alabama.

Chestnut Ridge’s Jared McGill placed seventh at 105 pounds, and Greater Johnstown’s Treazure Toney finished eighth at 90 pounds.
