The Johnstown Tomahawks dropped their seventh consecutive game on Saturday night, falling 2-1 to the host Springfield Jr. Blues at Nelson Arena.
Springfield (55 points) closed within two points of fourth-place Johnstown (57), which is 0-5-2 during the losing skid. The Tomahawks have five games remaining, with three at home.
Janesville gained a point on the Tomahawks by picking up a point in a 2-1 shootout loss to Michigan.
The Jets (58 points) broke a tie with Johnstown (57) for third place.
The Jr. Blues are within two points of Johnstown with 55 points.
Springfield got a quick start, as Oliver Takacsi-Nagy scored unassisted 1:23 into the game, placing a shot over the glove of Tomahawks goaltender Alex Okicki.
The Tomahawks tied the game as Jordan Watt’s short-handed tally beat goaltender Tyger Howat at 4:07 of the first. Matt Meier and Okicki had assists, with the goaltender recording his first helper of the season.
The Jr. Blues netted the game-winner in the second period, as Takacsi-Nagy hit the net for a second time at 7:03. Alex Baskakov and Brycon Johnson had assists.
Steffanos Lekkas earned the win, stopping 32 of 32 shots in relief of Howat, who was removed after the Watt goal. Okicki took the loss, stopping 30 of 32 shots.
Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play in the game.
The Tomahawks return home for Fan Appreciation Weekend against the Soo Eagles on Friday (7:30 p.m.), Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.).
