Kutztown wrestlers to visit Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN — Coach Pat Pecora's eighth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers will face a challenge in trying to extend their streak of 16 consecutive dual meet wins tonight.

The Mountain Cats will host 12th-ranked Kutztown University for alumni night at

7 p.m. in the Sports Center.

 The Mountain Cats opened the season with an impressive 42-6 win over 16th-ranked University of Findlay (Ohio) on Nov. 13 and a 34-6 victory over West Liberty (W.Va.) University on Wednesday to extend their winning streak, which dates back to last season.

 The Mountain Cats are led by All-Americans Dave Fogle (125 pounds), Dave Cawley (149), and Travis McKillop (184), and national qualifiers Evan Link (133), Gary Lantz (165), and Josh Duplin (285).

 Nationally, McKillop is second at 184, while Cawley is sixth at 149, Fogle is seventh at 125, and Duplin is eighth at 285.

 Eight Mountain Cats are ranked in the Super Region I rankings, including, Cawley and McKillop who are both ranked first. Fogle is second, and Lantz and Duplin are both third.

In addition, Link and Nikos Garafola (174) are both fifth, and Zak Newton (197) is sixth.

 Kutztown, under 13th-year Head Coach Rob Fisher, is 2-1 after the University of Maryland Terrapin Duals on Nov. 3.  Kutztown defeated Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) 47-3 and Johns Hopkins (Md.) 27-3, and suffered a 35-0 loss to Maryland.

 The Golden Bears are led by 2013 All-American and NCAA No. 1-ranked Ziad Haddad (285) and national qualifiers Evan Yenolevich (133) and Mitch Voelker (141).

 Last season, the Mountain Cats visited 18th-ranked Kutztown on Nov. 21, and dealt the Golden Bears a 24-17 loss.

    First, the NL Central rivals completed a game that was suspended in the sixth inning because of rain the previous night.

    Andrew McCutchen doubled and came around on Russell Martin’s single in the seventh inning on Tuesday, giving the Pittsburgh Pirates an 8-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the completion of a game that spanned two days and 10 home runs.

    And if the Pittsburgh Penguins can’t find a way to extend their season into the final days of spring, ultimately forgettable.

    The third period of Game 3 of the NAHL North Division semifinal served as a quick primer of the Johnstown Tomahawks’ playoff fortunes against top-seeded Port Huron.
    Trailing by two goals going into the third, the Tomahawks ramped up the intensity, producing a goal early and a multitude of chances at an equalizer until the game’s final moments when goaltender Max Milosek stopped Jordan Watt’s breakaway try as the Cambria County War Memorial Arena’s horn sounded.
