Sokira records double-double

MUNDYS CORNER – The Warriors’ Alyssa Wesner scored 25 points and Northumberland Christian dealt Cambria County Christian a home loss.

Natalie Sokira had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers.

Rick Majerus dies at 64

LOS ANGELES – Rick Majerus, the jovial college basketball coach who led Utah to the 1998 NCAA final and had only one losing season in 25 years with four schools, died Saturday.

He was 64.

Utah industrialist Jon Huntsman, the coach’s longtime friend, confirmed in a statement released through The Salt Lake Tribune that Majerus died of heart failure in a Los Angeles hospital.  

Majerus said Nov. 19 that he wouldn’t return to St. Louis because of the heart condition.  

Majerus was undergoing evaluation and treatment in California for the ongoing heart trouble and the school announced he was on leave in late August.

UPJ skates past PSU Altoona


UPJ improved to 12-6 on the season with a 6-3 win over Penn State Altoona on Saturday at Galactic Ice.

UPJ was led by Troy Schall, who had two goals and one assist, and returning All-American Eugene Mack with one goal and two assists.

Mack missed the first half of the season with a shoulder injury.

Wayne David recorded two assists. UPJ goaltender Tyler Mains stopped 37 of 40 shots. UPJ was 1 for 6 on the power play and PSA was 0 for 3. UPJ had 49 shots on goal.
