Angela Miller | An ornament for real-life angels

— “One of my favorite Christmas ornaments is one that was given to me by one of the volunteers I worked with at the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C.,” wrote Angela Miller of Johnstown. “Her name was Francine and she loved to make Christmas ornaments. One day during the Christmas season, she came to work and said that she had made something for me. She knew I had recently been going through a very difficult time. She proudly presented me with this beautiful angel ornament and said it was because I was her ‘angel.’ It was 1985 and, at the time, Francine was 83 years old. This angel ornament has been on my tree every year for the last 28 years. When I moved to Johnstown in 1988 I lost touch with her, but every year when I hang this ornament on my tree, I see her face, remember her smile and marvel at how deeply such a small, kind gesture touched me. Francine will stay in my memory and in my heart forever. She is now my angel.”
