BLACKBURN - Mary
BLACKBURN - Mary Cecilia Russell, 93, Preston Street, Bedford, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 3, 2007, at her residence. She was born June 15, 1913, in Bedford, daughter of the late Arthur S. and Ruth (Stevenson) Russell. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Lamborn "Ted" Blackburn, whom she married July 25, 1942, in Bedford. She is survived by five children, Melissa, wife of Michael Shakman, Chicago, Ill.; Sharon, wife of Homer Dumas, Honolulu, Hawaii; Marcia, wife of Thomas Rogish, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; Cecilia Lawrence, Dallas, Texas; and William Blackburn, married to the former Margaret Golian, Shanksville; 10 grandchildren, Katherine Blackburn Shakman; Mary Frances Dumas; James Edmund Dumas; Joseph Kipp Blackburn Rogish; Jeffrey Thomas Lamborn Rogish; Wendy Leigh Bialek; Charitie Amber Mercier; William Russell Blackburn; Jason Laine Blackburn; and Kelsey Marie Blackburn; and five great-grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Rogish, Aleyna Marie Penny, London Renee Mercier, Nixon Kain Mercier and Baily Laine Blackburn. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Allen Stevenson Russell, married to the former Judy Sexauer, Hilton Head, N.C.; James Kirk Russell, married to the former Betty Manspeaker, Bedford; Beverly Ruth, wife of Wilbur Creelman, Emmaus; and Anna Belle, wife of Eugene Thomas, San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Franklin Russell. She was a life member and oldest member and a deacon of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. She also had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Ladies Circle. She was one of the earliest members of the Ladies Auxiliary at Bedford Hospital and also a member of numerous bridge clubs for many years. She was a graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1931 and a graduate of Wilson College in Chambersburg, and a graduate of Columbia University in New York. She was a teacher and a head librarian at Bedford High School for many years, retiring in 1975. Mary Blackburn devoted her life to her family, friends and the Bedford Presbyterian Church. She loved traveling with her husband and family and last year even visited Australia. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, from Bedford Presbyterian Church. Burial at Fishertown Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. CIEZOBKA - Elizabeth Jean, 77, Rebekah Manor, Northern Cambria, died Jan. 4, 2007, at the manor. Born June 28, 1929, in Emeigh, daughter of Simon and Martha (Kurkoski) Bernecky. Preceded in death by parents; husband, John A. "Yush," who died in 2004; son, John Jr.; brothers, Sam, Tony, Pete and Joe; and sisters, Margaret Witenski, Eve Bodnar and infant sister, Mary. Survived by daughter, Sr. Johnna, Kingstree, S.C.; son, David, married to the former Josephine Kuzar, Carrolltown; grandchildren, Mark, David and Christa Ciezobka and Brenda Pierce; and great-grandson, Tyler Pierce. Formerly employed at Van Heusen Shirt Factory and Carol Ann Fashions. Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, CD of A and Hastings VFW Ladies Auxiliary. DADEY - Ralph Thomas, 79, Lower Yoder Township, died Jan. 3, 2007. Born May 25, 1927, son of Rudolph and Anna (Dorotzak) Dadey. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Albert, and wife, Elizabeth (Given) Dadey; William, and wife, Annabelle (Lohnes) Dadey; sisters, Matilda, and husband, John Nickel; Velma Dadey; Ann, and husband, John Duriga; and Helen Dunn; and sister-in-law, Laverne (Davis) Dadey. Survived by wife of 58 years, Margaret (Huzina); their children, Gary, and wife, Donna (Ravida); Stephen, and wife, Mary Lee (Rerko); and Susan Dadey; and granddaughters, Amy, and husband, Jonathan Rhodes, and Leanne and Maggie Dadey, all of the Johnstown area. Also survived by brothers, Rudolph Dadey, and Charles, and wife, Ruth Dadey; brother-in-law, James Dunn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp. with 35 years of service as a millwright in the Coke and Rosedale plants. U.S. Navy combat veteran of World War II, serving on the USS McCracken. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moskal Funeral Home, West End, where vigil for the deceased will be held Friday afternoon. HESS - Violet Mae, 82, Vo-Tech Drive, formerly of Richland Towers, died Jan. 4, 2007, at Golden Living Center. Born June 19, 1924, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Edward F. and Priscilla (Cramer) Hern. Preceded in death by husband, John W. Survived by sister, Margaret K. Strachan, Johnstown, and brother, William Edward, Lafayette, Ind. Mrs. Hess was a Johnstown High School graduate and a secretary for the Johnstown Police Department. There will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Grandview Cemetery, the Rev. Emily Byrd. Arrangements by Geisel Funeral Home, Dale.

MAY - Pauline, 84, Berlin, formerly of Greenville, died Jan. 3, 2007, at Somerset Hospital. Born Feb. 20, 1922, in Stonycreek Township, daughter of Willard and Leora (Engle) Schrock. Preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Hilda Glessner; husband, James M. May Sr.; son, Dennis W. May; brothers, William W. Schrock and Glenn E. Schrock; and sisters, Irma Berkebile and Margaret Barchey. Survived by son, James M. Jr., married to the former Patricia Maust; grandchildren, Yvonne (Richard) Miller, Hooversville; Susan Maldonado, Somerset; and Melissa Delosso and Amanda Zembel, both of California; and a great-grandson, Ian J. Maldonado. Also survived by sisters, Janet (Glenn) Scott, Shanksville, and Patricia (Ronald) Glessner, Delaware; sister-in-law, Nada Schrock, Berlin; and many wonderful and caring nieces, nephews and friends. Member of Berlin Brethren Church. She enjoyed doing needlepoint and quilting. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Eugene Oburn officiating. MILLER- Ruth E., 78, Rocky Mount, N.C., formerly of Soap Hollow, died Dec. 23, 2006, at home. Born April 19, 1928, in Johnstown, daughter of Oscar and Marion (Rigby) Mulhollen. Preceded in death by parents; stepfather, Paul W. Brown; first husband, R. Roy Griffith, who died March 4, 1971; brother, Ralph E. Mulhollen; and grandson, Wolfe Bryan Huber. Survived by second husband, John M. Miller; children, Sandra Johnson, and husband, Dan, Falconer, N.Y.; Marion Huber, and husband, Wolfe, Delmont; Sharon Panagotacos, Johnstown; Daniel, and wife, Wendy, Johnstown; and Roger, and wife, Lori, Johnstown; stepsons, Robert Miller, and wife, Cindy, Johnstown, and Gary, and wife Gloria, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. A memorial service to be held by the family. Interment will be held in St. James' Cemetery in Boswell.

PAUL - W. Robert, 54, Ebensburg, died Jan. 4, 2007, at Windber Hospice. Born Nov. 12, 1952, in Spangler, son of John N. and Mary Ann (Blacklock) Paul. Preceded in death by father. Survived by mother, Pittsburgh; brother, John Jr., Texas; and half sister, Nancy Zamboni, Tennessee. Member of Beth Sholom Congregation. Johnstown hockey fans will remember Bob's true-to-form rendition of the National Anthem before many home games. He was a photographer for the Ebensburg Mountaineer Herald and more recently for The Tribune-Democrat and Altoona Mirror. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., Rabbi Irvin Brandwein. Interment, Ahavath Achim Cemetery. Bob will be sadly missed by many friends and the members of Beth Sholom Congregation.

SHAFFER - Mildred Grace, 84, Johnstown, died Jan. 4, 2007, at Rosewood Assisted Living, Richland. Born May 29, 1922, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Martin and Della (Leventry) Shaffer. Preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Homer, Maurice, Peggy and Martin. Survived by these brothers and sisters: Marian Lohr, Ruth Sopchick, Jane Shaffer, Nancy Paff and Chalmer Shaffer. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Mildred was much loved by her entire family. She was a retired factory worker. Preceded in death by parents, and brother, Charles Shaffer. Survived by sisters, Sharon Killian; Nancy, wife of George Mangus; and Linda, wife of Chris Stephens; and brother, Walter, married to the former Sherry Moyer, all of Johnstown, and numerous nieces and nephews. Formerly employed as a janitor at Reliant Energy Power Plant, Seward station. U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.
