ACME, PA. — SKOVIRA – Ralph N., 89, Acme, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Born Dec. 14, 1924, in Scottdale, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Marie (Priester) Skovira. Ralph was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and prior to retirement, worked at Latrobe Steel. He had been a member of the former St. Boniface Catholic Church, Chestnut Ridge. Ralph was raised on Chestnut Ridge, where he loved nature and shared all he knew with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him joy and laughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, infant Joseph; and William Skovira, and his wife, Mary; and brothers, Robert, Clarence and Regis Skovira. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty J. (Leighty) Skovira; children, Thomas, and wife, Bonnie, Acme, Pa.; Karen Kenney, and husband, Harry, Greensburg; Patricia Shaw, and husband, Joseph, Portage; Daniel, and wife, Susan, Acme, Pa.; Paul, Donegal, Pa.; Kathleen Keller, and husband, Dale, Brush Valley; David, at home; Jacquelyn Frampton, and husband, Jeff, Boswell; and Michael Skovira, and wife, Jennifer, Cook Township, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemarie Kmetz, Acme, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gaut-Bacha Funeral Home Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, where prayers will be held at 9:20 a.m. Friday, followed by funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe, with the Rev. Thaddeus J. Kaczmarek, celebrant. Military services by Armbrust Veterans Association and interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
