OAKLAND — WILSON – Dr. John D., 86, Oakland, died Sept. 11, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 13, 1925, in Dale Borough, son of Frank L. and Hilda (Schmidt) Wilson. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Sara E. Hoffman; and brother, Paul. Survived by wife of 59 years, Dixie Ann (Miller); children, Matthew L., married to the former Paula Rae Sobczak, McKean County; Dr. Kevin D., married to the former Mary Lou Kennedy, Chesapeake, Va.; Melanie D., married to Daniel Ray Lohr, Chester County; and Seth P., at home; grandchildren, Andrea, wife of Frank Rudolph; Kristopher Wilson; Laura Wilson; and Candace and Derek Lohr; and great-grandsons, Aaron, Austin, Aidan and Andrew Rudolph. Also survived by brother, the Rev. Lloyd T. Wilson. Veteran of World War II, having served in the 69th Infantry Division in the Army Air Corps. He earned his bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in literature and a doctorate in education at the University of Pittsburgh. For nine years, he taught in Windber, Ford City and Westmont-Upper Yoder high schools. For 30 years, he was a member of the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Johnstown. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 600 Ash St., Johnstown, by his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Brian Armen.
