EBENSBURG — SCHENK – Joseph O., 86, Tripoli Road, Ebensburg, passed away April 15, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was brought into this world March 26, 1927, in Loretto, son of the late Albin and Edith (Baker) Schenk. Awaiting his heavenly arrival were his parents; wife, Sara Jane “Patsy” Conrad; daughter, Sharon Kathryn Schenk; granddaughter, Melissa Marie Miller; brothers, Robert, Denver and Irvin Schenk; and sister, Leona Venesky. Survived by children, Edith Miller, Carrolltown; Debra (Joseph) Snedden, Nanty Glo; Joseph, Ebensburg; Edward (Patricia Teeter) Schenk, Mundys Corner; and Daniel Martin Schenk, Ebensburg. Loving grandfather of Kenneth (Marie) Miller, Kevin Miller, Robert McMullen, Jennifer (Freddie) Tate, Elaine (Cliff) Frampton, Alan (Teresa) Blair Jr., Joseph Schenk III, Shawn Schenk, Nathaniel Schenk, Angela (Matt) Wissinger, Michael Schenk and Raeann Schenk; 14 great-grandchildren, with two more expected this fall. Also survived by siblings, Rita Wolfe, Nicktown; Aileen Ford, Ohio; and Rose (Jack) Conrad and Albin (Helen) Schenk, all of Chest Springs; sisters-in-law, Mary Schenk, Patton; and Barb Schenk, Altoona; and brother-in-law, Leo Venesky, Ebensburg. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends, who all loved him dearly. Joe was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Colver. A Navy veteran, having served during World War II, he was a member of Ebensburg Post 363 American Legion, where he had served on the funeral honor guard. He retired from Automotive Supply Co. All who knew him will never forget his compassion for helping others. He enjoyed spending time with his family, making various woodcrafts, gardening and tending to his property. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where vigil prayer service will be held Thursday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church, the Rev. Father Bernard Grega and the Rev. Carl Spishak, concelebrants. Committal, Holy Family Cemetery, Colver.
