MONTGOMERY COUNTY — ROWLAND – Owen W., 90, a resident of Towamencin Township for the past 53 years, died Oct. 21, 2012, at Abington Hospice at Warminster. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth (Kossol) Rowland. The two were married in 1948 and previously resided in Philadelphia and Ardsley. Born Oct. 27, 1921, in Patton, son of the late Richard and Minnie (Lyle) Rowland, and was the youngest of six children. In 1942, while serving with the State Police, Mr. Rowland enlisted in the U.S. Navy and saw action aboard the Destroyer USS Wainwright in the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. Mr. Rowland graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1951. For more than 30 years, he was employed by United Engineers & Constructors in various capacities, including project buyer, manager of equal employment opportunity, legal administrator and tax manager. He was an active member of Lansdale United Methodist Church and sang in its choir since 1959. He also served for several years as Cherub Choir accompanist, editor of the church newsletter, and later as coordinator for Red Cross blood drives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Rowland is survived by their daughters, Kathleen Wong, and husband, Richard, Florham Park, N.J.; and Cynthia Lesitsky, and husband, Jeffrey, Salfordville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Robert, Quentin and Vernon Rowland; and sister, June Rowland. An opportunity to view and greet the family was held Oct. 25, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. Interment will be private in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler. Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 5, at Lansdale United Methodist Church, 300 N. Broad St., Lansdale, Pa. 19446. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lansdale United Methodist Church, address above, designated church’s building fund.
