HOLLIDAYSBURG — MESAROS – Dorothy Mae (Hauser), 96, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg. Born Aug. 26, 1917, in Johnstown, daughter of Herman George Hauser and Hilda Mary (Wentz) Hauser. She was married to John Mesaros Jr. for 61 years until his death in 1996. They made their home at 1130 Clapboard Run Road for their entire marriage. Dorothy lived her whole life in Johnstown before moving to Garvey Manor in June 2013. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Leonard, and wife, Sandra; brothers, Robert and Rudolph; son-in-law, Marlin Lamer; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Mesaros; also great-granddaughter, Arianna Lamer. Surviving Dorothy are sons, James, Hooversville; John, and wife, Jo, Gainesville, Fla.; Kenneth, and wife, Eleanor, Elyria, Ohio; Robert, and wife, Catherine, West Chester; George, and wife, Kathy, Dayton, Ohio; and Richard, and wife, Carol, Savannah, Ga.; and daughters, Anna Elka, and husband, Rick, Nanty Glo; and Elizabeth McNulty, and husband, Daniel. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister, Isabelle Vogel; sister-in-law, Catherine Hauser; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Dorothy was a wife and homemaker most of her life before working at the former Trexler Funeral Home in Johnstown and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, a tireless worker and a devout Catholic. Longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and SS. Gregory & Barnabas Catholic Church, Johnstown. She took up bowling in her 70s and rolled a 200-plus game in her late 80s. She is loved and sadly missed by her family and friends. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS. Gregory & Barnabas Catholic Church, Bon Air, the Rev. Robert Ruston, officiating. Committal, St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church.
