Shirley A. Hammond

PORTAGE — HAMMOND – Shirley A., 75, Portage, formerly of St. Augustine, died Oct. 30, 2012, at ARHS Altoona Hospital Campus. Born March 21, 1937, in Patton R.D., daughter of the late Thaddeus Sr. and Enna (Ross) Hammond. Preceded in death by infant brother, David; brothers, Charles, John and James; sister-in-law, Patsy Sue Hammons; and great-nephew, Jordan English. Survived by brothers, Thaddeus Jr. (Nancy Hartman), Martinsburg; and Timothy (Mary Ann Fillman), Patton R.D.; and sisters-in-law, Janet Hammond, Altoona; and Josephine Hammond, Martinsburg, W.Va. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, and special friend, John McConnell, Portage. She worked in medical records at Miners Hospital in Spangler and Hastings for 34 years. Member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Joseph Fleming, celebrant. Committal, church cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where vigil service will be held Thursday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Augustine Catholic Church in Shirley’s memory.
