NANTY GLO — BYICH – Pete Jr., 76, Second Street, Nanty Glo, passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2010, at home. Born Jan. 1, 1934, in Nanty Glo, son of the late Pete and Mary (Grant) Byich. Preceded in death by grandson, Ryan Scott Byich; sister, Mary Mihelic; brothers, Louis and Paul; stepbrother, John Lucas; and nephews, Mickey Lucas and David Fenchak. Survived by wife of 54 years, the former Jo Anne Barr; and children, Pam Schilling, and her friend, Dave McCabe; Kevin (Ann) Byich; Tim (Maria) Byich; and Pete, and fiancee, Bridget Fox. Also survived by sister, Millie (Mike) Fenchak; brother, Sam (Marcia) Byich; sister-in-law, Mrs. Louis (Jean) Byich; close friend, Jeffrey Schilling; grandchildren, Justin and Kristen Schilling; Chad Schilling, and his friend, Danielle; Noah and Sophia; Bristy and Jessica; Cory and Lindsey; Megan and P.J. Byich; and Corey and Breanna Fox; great-granddaughter, Rylan Byich; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1952 graduate of Nanty Glo High School. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. Pete had served as president of Blacklick Valley School Board and served on Nanty Glo Borough Council. Member of the board of directors at Admiral Peary Vo-Tech and IU-8. Honorary member of PSBA and head of the Legislative Committee of Cambria County. Pete was manager of American Legion Baseball League and coached peewee baseball. He was the proud grandfather of five former Bishop Carroll athletes and a longtime avid supporter of Bishop Carroll athletics. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Geno Bartoletti, officiating. Interment, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ryan Byich Memorial Scholarship Funds at either Blacklick Valley or Bishop Carroll high schools.
