Raymond F. Cowan

JOHNSTOWN — COWAN – Raymond F., 83, Johnstown, died Nov. 16, 2013, at Transitional Care Unit Hospital. Born April 8, 1930, in Johnstown, son of Louis and Stella (Schiffhauer) Cowan. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Louis Cowan; and sister, Leona Cowan. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lois (Faust) Cowan; children, Jean Anne, wife of Joseph Engler, Rockville, Md.; Ronald F. Cowan, Fairfax, Va.; and Judy Marie, wife of Harold “Chip” Eckles, Columbia, Md.; grandchildren, Christina Marie, Sharon Anne and Patrick J. Engler and Kayleigh Marie Eckles; great-grandson, Jason D. Engler; and sister, Stella Evans, Chicago. Ray was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was a member of the parish and financial council. He was retired from Prudential Life Insurance Co. with 30 years of service as an insurance agent; a Brownstown councilman for 20 years; former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church bowling league; and Galleria Mall walker. After his retirement, Ray and Lois became part-time residents of Ocean City, Md. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St., where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Brownstown, Franciscan Friars, OFM, Conv. Committal will take place at Grandview Cemetery.
