WINDBER — PARTSCH – Victor W., 84, Windber, passed away peacefully March 24, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family and faithful dog, Abby. Born Nov. 26, 1929, in Johnstown, son of Frank W. and Agnes M. (Kohler) Partsch. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Albert, Donald and Herbert Partsch; and sister, Joanne Partsch. Survived by wife of 57 years, Virginia (Barzensky) Partsch; and children, Barbara Partsch; and Victor Partsch, and wife, Suzanne (Hostetler), both of Windber. Brother of Dorothy, wife of Merle Stroz; Anthony “Ed” Partsch; and Harold Partsch, and wife, Lou Ann, all of Johnstown; also Raymond Partsch, and wife, Carol, Sidman. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Irene Partsch and Mary Partsch, both of Johnstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vic was born and raised on a dairy farm which instilled in him a very strong work ethic. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 4795, Windber. Retired from Bethlehem Steel, Gautier Division, after 36 years. He enjoyed hunting at “the Shack,” making maple syrup and vacations at Myrtle Beach with his family. After his retirement, Vic was a caretaker for several Windber church cemeteries. He kept busy by working in his flower and vegetable gardens, sharing the fruits of his labor with everyone. He kept an immaculate yard, growing flower beds of red Canna Lillies. Vic was a kind hearted husband and father who was a hardworking and humble man. Member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Martin Cingle. Interment, St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery, Windber, with graveside military honors by Windber VFW Ritual Team. Friends received from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Windber Hospice and to his caregivers for their compassion and support. “I will not leave you comfortless.” Memorial donations can be made to the family to distribute to various charities of choice.
