WILLIAMSBURG, VA. — YEWCIC – Paul, Williamsburg, Va., passed away March 30, 2013. Paul was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Johnstown, son of the late George Yewcic and Julia (Butala) Yewcic. He graduated from Conemaugh High School, then attended the College of William & Mary from 1948 through 1952 in Williamsburg, Va., where he played football on scholarship and baseball. After college, he taught at Toano High School. His skills later brought him to Fort Eustis to educate officers and enlisted students at the U.S. Army Transportation School. His educator’s role later changed to a more athletic capacity as the sports director for the Department of the Army, supporting the troops, their families, the public community and colleges. He retired after 38 years of service. Paul’s athletic knowledge was shared with the youth of Williamsburg, where he coached many years of Little League, Pony League and American Legion baseball, complimented with guidance to many, regarding other sports and their education. Later he became the president of the Williamsburg Youth League, directing its continued growth. After retiring, Paul volunteered his spare time at the Red Cross for various projects and the Golden Horseshoe Golf Course for youth golf tournaments. As a family man, Paul loved being involved and active with his family, cooking large meals to share, doing yard work, the western channel and friendships. He was an active member of St. Bede Catholic Church since 1948. Paul was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Ellen Turner Yewcic; sisters, Mary, Ann, Helen and Irene; and brothers, Jay, George, Nick, Michael, Steve and Andrew.
