NORTHERN CAMBRIA — SHOVESTULL – Donald C. “Hoot,” 83, Northern Cambria, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his son, Richard, on Sept. 16, 2013. Born May 25, 1930, in Hawthorne, Clarion County, son of Arden “Hoot” and Minnie (Guthrie) Shovestull. Preceded in death by parents; infant granddaughter, Jeanette Lipps; sisters, Margaret “Ruby” Zienko and Mary Mekulsia; and infant brother, Richard Shovestull. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Rosella (Ponchock) Shovestull; children, Kathy, wife of Paul Knapik, Northern Cambria; Lynn Lipps, fiancee of Pete Dudley, Johnstown; Donald P. Shovestull, married to former Barbara Halza, Johnstown; Susan, wife of Christian Hoover; Richard Shovestull and Mary Gruse; and Edward Shovestull, married to former Carrie Shell, all of Northern Cambria; and grandchildren, Crissy, Barbie, Greg, Scott, Donny, Jeff, Matthew, Bethany, Nick and Ben. Also survived by sister, JoAnn Brickell, Leroy, Ohio; brother-in-law, Alex Zienko, Sidman; and good friends, Bill Lipps and John Benamati. Hoot was a devoted father and grandfather who was happiest spending time with his family. U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Retired coal miner with 40 years of service with Bethlehem Mine 33 and Barnes & Tucker Co. Member of UMWA. Life member of Spangler Fire Company. Member of Mosscreek Rod & Gun Club. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Chapel, Father Larry Lacovic, officiating. Committal, Holy Cross Cemetery. Military honors by local veterans organizations. Memorial donations may be made in Hoot’s memory to Spangler Fire Company Building Fund.
