EBENSBURG — BLOOM – Fred M., 92, Ebensburg, Cambria Township, passed away peacefully Nov. 6, 2013, at Lock Haven Hospital. Born Oct. 6, 1921, in Cambria Township, son of the late John Powell and Eva Mildred (Gallaher) Bloom. Preceded in death by wife, the former Janet R. (Simons) Bloom; son, Thomas R.; and brother, John Bloom. Survived by children, Nedra Rose, wife of Edward Cox, Lock Haven; Fred D. (wife, Cynthia) Bloom, Sacramento, Calif.; William E. (wife, Rebecca) Bloom and James K. (wife, Jean) Bloom, all of Ebensburg; and Rebecca Bloom, McMurray, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Richard Bloom, Ebensburg; sister, Rosemary Baumgardner, Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was a longtime member of Ebensburg United Church of Christ (Congregational), where he had formerly served on the deacon board. A self-employed farmer, he also had been employed as the Cambria County dog enforcement officer for many years, and worked as a bus and plow truck operator. Fred enjoyed membership to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, 4-H Horse and Beef Clubs, and involvement in the Appalachian Wagon Train, where he served as a past president. He loved to hunt and fish, especially in Potter County. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ebensburg United Church of Christ, Pastor Chuck Davis, officiating. Interment, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to Appalachian Wagon Train, c/o Mrs. Edith Crosby, 113 Myers St., Ebensburg, Pa. 15931; Ebensburg United Church of Christ, East High Street, Ebensburg, Pa. 15931; or to the 4-H.
