JOHNSTOWN — KELLY – Merle D., 88, Johnstown, formerly of Vinco, died Dec. 18, 2013, at Golden Living Center. Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Cambria County, son of the late James and Cora (Dishong) Kelly. Preceded in death by brother, Robert Grove; and sister, Ruth Ellen Gelles. Survived by wife of 67 years, Freda A. (Leidy) Kelly; children, Lane Kelly, married to Pat, Mineral Point; Joy Miller, married to Sid, New Paris; and Brad, married to Mary, Nanty Glo; grandchildren, Kirk, Mineral Point; Shannon, and husband, Eric, Reston, Va.; Tanya Kindel, and husband, Lee, McClean, Va.; Shawn, and wife, Kattie, Johnstown; and Brandon, Pittsburgh; great-granddaughter, Jayla Handlon; and brother, Roy Kelly, Johnstown. He was a graduate of Conemaugh High School and drafted into the Army at the age of 18. He served in the 104th Infantry (Timberwolf) Division; 415th Regiment; E Company in Europe during World War II. Merle was a longtime member of Pike Grace Brethren Church, where he taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. He retired from Bethlehem Steel General Office, where he worked in the accounting department for 30 years. Friends received Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Pike Grace Brethren  Church, Pastor Joe Couch, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church.
