SWISSVALE — CYRWUS – Walter, 97, Swissvale, formerly of Portage, died March 21, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born Feb. 1, 1916, in Portage, son of  Wojciech (Albert) and Antonina (Sral) Cyrwus. Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Josephine (Mrozek) Cyrwus; brothers, Joseph and Stanley Cyrwus; and sisters, Catherine A. Dawczak, Ann M. Squillario, Helen Koval and Alice Sboray. Brother of Dolores F. Havrilla, Wickliffe, Ohio. He was a loving uncle and godparent, and was much loved by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Retired welder and metal fabricator for the steel mills in Pittsburgh. He enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, gardening, playing accordion, taxidermy and woodworking. Friends received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, Portage. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Avenue, Portage, Father Joseph Janiszeski, celebrant. Committal, Sacred Heart Cemetery.
